Operating Instructions

  1. Confirm the HP DeskJet 2800e is plugged in, powered on, and has plain paper loaded in the rear input tray.
  2. For normal printing, connect your phone, tablet, or computer to the house Wi-Fi, then choose HP DeskJet 2800e from the printer list in your app or system print menu.
  3. For iPhone, iPad, or Mac, use the normal Share or Print menu and select the HP DeskJet 2800e AirPrint printer if it appears.
  4. For scanning, use the HP Smart app on your own phone or computer; place the document face-down on the scanner glass and start Scan from the app.
  5. For copying, place the original face-down on the scanner glass, close the lid, then press the Black Copy or Color Copy button on the printer.
  6. Use only light guest printing; do not run large print jobs, labels, heavy cardstock, or anything wet/sticky through the printer.
  7. If the printer shows a paper, ink, offline, or connection warning, stop and contact your host instead of opening panels or changing Wi-Fi settings.

Have a problem?

  • Printer shows offline or does not appear
    1. Confirm your device is on the house Wi-Fi.
    2. Make sure the printer power light is on.
    3. Wait about a minute and try the print menu again.
    4. Do not reset Wi-Fi or remove the printer from HP Smart; contact your host if it still does not appear.
  • Paper will not feed or paper jam warning appears
    1. Remove loose paper from the tray and reload a small, straight stack of plain paper.
    2. Do not pull hard on stuck paper or open internal areas.
    3. Cancel the print job if possible.
    4. Contact your host if the warning remains.
  • Ink warning, faded output, or blank pages
    1. Do not remove the cartridges.
    2. Try one small test print only if the printer is otherwise ready.
    3. Contact your host if pages are blank, faded, streaked, or the printer asks for ink.
  • Cannot scan from the printer buttons
    1. Use HP Smart on your phone or computer to scan.
    2. Place the page face-down on the scanner glass, aligned to the corner guide.
    3. Choose Scan in HP Smart, preview the page, then save or share the file from your device.
    4. Contact your host if HP Smart cannot find the printer.
